GROZNY. March 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen Prime Minister Sergei Abramov said two landmines were discovered along his motorcade's route on Tuesday.
Abramov called for an investigation into a possible leak of information about his planned movements around Grozny today to check on construction and repair projects.
"Law enforcement agencies found a landmine planted on a roadside when the motorcade was traveling along Pobeda Avenue which leads to the center of Grozny. It happened several minutes before my car approached the dangerous section of the road," the Chechen prime minister told Interfax.
Abramov said the incident caused him to change the route and enter the Staropromyslovskoye highway, where a similar landmine was found.
The prime minister said he views the incidents as a real threat.
He did not rule out that information about his planned route could have been leaked. "My trip was of a routine nature. Naturally, a wide range of people could have known about it," he said.
An investigation will be carried out, Abramov said.
Meanwhile, law enforcement sources did not rule that the bombs could have targeted any of Chechnya's senior officials as the roads along which they were planted are among Grozny's busiest thoroughfares.
