Tskhinvali suggests meeting of Georgian, S. Ossetian foreign and defense ministers

TBILISI. March 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The authorities of the self-proclaimed South Ossetian Republic have suggested holding a meeting of foreign and defense ministers of Georgia and South Ossetia.

"We suggest holding such a meeting before April 1 in order to discuss problems in implementing the Sochi agreements of November 2004 concerning demilitarization of the conflict zone," Boris Chochiyev, South Ossetian minister without portfolio and co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission, told Interfax-Military News Agency by phone on Wednesday.

"It is necessary to scale up cooperation, and according to preliminary information, the Georgian party has a positive attitude towards holding such a meeting," he said.

At the same time, "Tskhinvali is concerned over lack of coordination between Georgian bodies," Chochiyev went on.

"We were assured at the Moscow meeting of Joint Control Commission co-chairmen just a few days ago that no rotation is planned for the Georgian battalion within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. But it turns out that the Defense Ministry has decided to hold another unscheduled rotation already on March 24 and 25," he stressed.

"This is an outrage. According to all agreements, rotations can be held once in six months, but Georgia held the previous rotation just two months ago," Chochiyev noted.

"That is why we doubt that the Georgian party intends to abide by other accords," he said.
