CIS air force, air defense units to practice interaction

MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Air force and air defense units of CIS member states will practice interaction during a command post exercise on April 5, Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky, chief of the Russian Air Force press service, said on Thursday.

"The exercise will involve control bodies and on-duty officers of the unified air defense system of eight nations, namely Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan," Drobyshevsky told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Surface-to-air missile units armed with S-300, S-125 and S-75 systems will take part in the exercise. "Attack planes, fighters, bombers and air scouts will make over 60 flights to mark aerial targets, conduct interception and intelligence," the official said.

Planes from the Russian airbase in Kyrgyzstan's Kant will be involved in the event, he noted.

Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov will supervise the exercise.
