Georgia strengthens border with Abkhazia - interior minister

TBILISI. April 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Ninety additional policemen will be attached next week to the Georgian Interior Ministry's rapid reaction battalion, located along the perimeter of the administrative border with Abkhazia, Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili told journalists on Sunday.

"The newly recruited policemen will undergo training first and then assume their duties. The personnel will be rotated very often," Merabishvili said.

Governor of the Samegrelo - Zemo Svanetia district Gigi Ugulava told reporters that some of the police posts may be moved deep into the Zugdidi district.

"Abkhazia asked us to shift these posts to rule out provocations. Georgia is considering this request. I don't think it's a big problem," Ugulava said.
