KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Questions related to the support of reforms in the Ukrainian armed forces and possible joint peacekeeping operations will be discussed during the visit to Washington by the chief of staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which will begin on Tuesday, the General Staff's press service told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"The aim of the visit by a Ukrainian military delegation under Chief of Staff Serhiy Kyrychenko is to deepen bilateral military cooperation and Ukrainian-NATO partnership, and particularly U.S. assistance to reforms in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and possible joint peacekeeping operations," the press service said.
In accordance with the trip's agenda, the delegation will visit the Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina on Tuesday.
It will travel to the headquarters of the 28th airmobile corps, the 82nd airmobile division and the 43rd transport aviation wing on Wednesday, where the Ukrainian guests will be briefed on the main missions of the units.
Kirichenko will hold a n official meeting with Richard Jones, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State and Coordinator for Iraq, in Washington on Thursday. Later that day, the Pentagon will host Kirichenko's meeting with General Richard Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In the evening, the Ukrainian official is planning to meet with General Richard Cody, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.
Before rounding up the visit on Friday, the Ukrainian military delegation will travel to the McDill Air Force Base in Florida, where Kirichenko will meet with General John Abizaid, Commander of the U.S. Central Command.
