Black Sea Fleet starts training voyage

SEVASTOPOL. April 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Black Sea Fleet started an exercise, involving a unit of missile boats and warship, naval aviation, and coast-based units, on Wednesday, with the exercise supervised by Vice Admiral Alexander Tatarinov, Black Sea Fleet commander.

The fleet's press-service told Interfax-Military News Agency that major objectives of the exercise consisted in improving training of commanding officers and headquarters of various levels and refining task force interoperability in combat environment.

The exercise has thoroughly been refined at permanent deployment sites with the help of available means.

Up to 20 warships, 15 fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, support vessels, and marine units will take part in the event.

"The exercise envisions mine-laying and mine-sweeping operations, anti-submarine warfare, torpedo firing and depth bombing exercises, sophisticated artillery exercises, as well as refining marine unit tactics and various scenarios of naval engagements," the press-service said.

The event is expected to include over 100 combat exercises, including the ones for a prize of the Russian Navy commander-in-chief.

The exercise is to last until April 14.
