Russian Air Force to show up with many aircraft types in Russian-Chinese exercise – commander

ZARYA, Moscow Region. April 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Almost all types of aircraft in service with the Russian Air Force now will take part in the Russian-Chinese exercise to be held in August and September 2005, Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov told a news conference on Friday.

"We will show our transport and heavy aircraft, as well as tactical and strategic aviation," he said.

Mikhailov added that the Russian Airborne Forces commander turned to him the other day with an application to provide two more transport aircraft to participate in the maneuvers.

He also said that not all the details of the forthcoming exercise have been cleared up yet.

Speaking of the results of the Rubezh 2005 exercise and the command post exercise of the CIS Unified Air Defense System, Mikhailov said that they were organized and held at the highest level possible.

"For instance, Sukhoi Su-27SM aircraft that have not passed the entire cycle of flight tests yet were employed. The results of the exercises show that we have come close to the level of the fifth-generation aircraft," he said.
