Results of large-scale mobilization exercise in North Caucasus summed up

ROSTOV-ON-DON. April 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The results of the large-scale command-post mobilization exercise held in the North Caucasus Military District since March 29 were summed up in the Volgograd region.

"The mobilization of reserve personnel and vehicles proved that the events of the kind cannot be effective without close interaction of military commissioner's offices, administrative personnel of military installations and local authorities and law enforcement agencies at all levels, especially where the conscription procedures and transportation of mobilized resources are concerned," Lieutenant General Alexander Postnikov, the district's chief of staff, who was in charge of the exercise, told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.

"It was the first large-scale mobilization exercise in the North Caucasus Military District in 2005. The funding of the procedures was allocated from the federal budget, from the Defense Ministry funds to be more exact," he said.

Colonel Igor Konashenkov, assistant to the district commander, told Interfax-AVN that the exercise involved over 70 military units and organizations in the district, as well as other services of the Armed Forces, law enforcement ministries, and 40 military commissioner's offices from the Volgograd region.

"We tested combat and mobilization readiness of units, military commissioners' offices of the district, as well as readiness of other uniformed agencies in the region to assist us in mobilization efforts," he said.

According to Konashenkov, 120 mobilization points, over 450 mobilization staffs, about 70 personnel mobilization offices and 50 materiel concentration points, and over 60 enlistment points in the units were opened to ensure that the task is fulfilled.

"A total of 1,089 vehicles were mobilized in the course of the exercise in accordance with the plan, " he added.

The exercise involved 35,000 personnel, including commissioned officers, warrant officers and ranks, who are in reserve of units and organization of the military district, other services of the Russian Armed Forces and uniformed agencies. About 5,000 people underwent one-day or five-day training, and 1,000 were engaged for 10-day training at one of the units in the district.
