General's murder may have been related to business - prosecutors

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Investigators are considering several motives for the murder of Federal Security Service General Anatoly Trofimov, the press service for the Moscow prosecutor's office told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

"The murder may have been related Trofimov's professional work in special services, or his commercial activities as deputy general director of a major company," a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office told Interfax-AVN.

He said no one has been detained in the case.

Ex-head of the Federal Security Service's Moscow department Col. Gen. Anatoly Trofimov was killed by three shots by an unidentified assailant on Klyazminskaya street at 7:25 p.m. (0325 GMT) on Sunday. His common law wife was wounded. She was taken to a hospital.

The murder is being investigated by the prosecutor's office of Moscow's northern district. Measures are being taken to track down the criminals, the spokesman said.
