KHANKALA. April 20 (Interfax-AVN) - A militant has surrendered in Chechnya.
Spokesman for the federal forces in the North Caucasus Major General Ilya Shabalkin told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday that a local resident had contacted Federal Security Service officers in the republic's Itum-Kale district and admitted to having been a member of Doku Umarov's guerrilla group since 1998.
The man, however, said he wanted to surrender "as he was tired of hiding from law enforcement agencies."
