Lavrov hopes Russia, Georgia achieve compromise on bases

MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov hopes that Russia and Georgia will reach a compromised solution to the terms of the Russian military bases' withdrawal from Georgia.

"Regrettably, a compromised solution on this issue was not reached at the April 14-15 negotiations in Tbilisi. We hope, however, that, at the following negotiations, including those to take place in Moscow in late April, the sides will manage to bring their positions closed together. We will hope for the best," Lavrov told journalists on Tuesday.

Lavrov took part in the presentation of a public organization called the Russian Military Commanders Club on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry distributed a statement saying that no agreement was reached on the appropriate draft agreement at the Russian-Georgian negotiations on the issue last week.
