Two militants detained, two arms caches found in Chechnya

KHANKALA. April 21 (Interfax-AVN) - A close associate of warlord Timur Abubakarov has been detained in the Leninsky district of Grozny, a spokesman for the regional headquarters directing anti-guerilla efforts in the North Caucasus said on Thursday.

"Law-enforcement agencies found the trace of the militant while investigating the criminal case opened in connection with the murder of an Urus-Martan resident a few years ago," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Another militant was detained in the village of Shali, the spokesman said.

"He was a member of the gang led by Rizvan Chitigov, who was eliminated in March. The man was involved in attacks on servicemen and administration facilities in the Shali district," the spokesman noted.

According to him, law-enforcers tipped off by locals found and destroyed two arms and ammo caches near the village of Roshni-Chu in the Urus-Martan district and the village of Meskhety in the Nozhai-Yurt district. The caches contained an antitank machine-gun, small arms, a few improvised explosive devices and two kilos of TNT.
