MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax-AVN) - About 140,000 illegal weapons are officially wanted in Russia, acting head of the Interior Ministry's Public Order Department Major General Leonid Vedenov told a Thursday news conference.
"Unofficially, the number of illegal weapons in Russia may be two or three times higher," he said.
Vedenov said that the majority of illegal weapons are automatic. The illegal arms market also offers plenty of Russian-made gas weapons adapted for firing live cartridges. "About 20,000 gas weapons were wanted two years ago," he said.
