Georgia blames Russia for supporting Abkhaz separatists

TBILISI. April 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is openly extending military aid to the Abkhaz separatists, Georgian State Minister for Separatist Conflicts Giorgi Khaindrava told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

"We are waiting until Moscow finally stops openly assisting the separatists, especially assisting the military," said Khaindrava.

He said Abkhaz officials have said on many occasions that their treasury is empty. "Both Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh and Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab complained they have no money to fund social programs. Then where have they got money for such large military exercises and to buy weapons?" the Georgian minister said.

"Then again, all Abkhaz generals are Russian citizens. All arguments that they are retired generals are mere tales which even Andersen would have failed to invent," he said.

"So, it appears that Russia is conducting illegal exercises in Georgia," he added.

"Serious fears are arising in Georgian society," Khaindrava said.
