ST. PETERSBURG. May 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The St. Petersburg-based Admiralteiskiye Verfi shipyard laid down the new Theater Bridge tanker on Wednesday, the shipyard's press-service told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"This is the fifth ship of the series, built at the shipyard for the Sovkomflot Company. All ships are named after famous bridges, than names of which start with a 'T"," a press-service official said.
The new tanker has a length of 182.5 m, a width of 32.5 m, a depth of 17.5 m, a deadweight of 47,400 tonnes, a speed of 15 knots, and a power plant of 8,310 kW. The tanker is capable of transporting up to five types of various cargo simultaneously, including crude oil, oil products, vegetable oil, and animal fat. The tanker is designed to sail in non-freezing seas. Its endurance amounts to 15,750 miles.
According to the press-service, it differs from previous ships of the same series in the fact that it meets new SOLAS international standards, which envision permanent access for inspecting cargo holds. The ship will be fitted with additional decks for access to any cargo hold, which improves cargo transportation safety.
In 2003-2004 Admiralteiskiye Verfi delivered the Troitsky Bridge, the Tuchkov Bridge, and the Tower Bridge to Sovkomflot. The Trade Bridge tanker has been launched as well.
The Admiralteiskiye Verfi shipyard specializes in building submarines and surface oil tankers.
