MINSK. May 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The Belarussian State Security Committee (KGB) has confirmed a statement made on Thursday by Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Nikolai Patrushev that a conspiracy to change the government exists in Belarus.
"The KGB confirms the statement of the Russian FSB director, Patrushev, about an intention to carry out a 'velvet revolution' in Belarus via non-governmental organizations for $50 million," KGB Deputy Chairman Viktor Vegera told reporters in Minsk.
"The KGB possesses additional information that provides evidence of the intention on the part of some foreign states and individual organizations and persons to finance a 'velvet revolution' in Belarus, trying to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign state," Vegera said.
"These activities are being monitored, and specific actions are being cut short," he said.
