ST. PETERSBURG. May 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The experiments of using Fontan explosion-proof containers in ensuring the protection of aircraft against terrorist attacks showed good results, reads the Zashchita I Bezopasnost magazine quoting Mikhail Silnikov, the Director General of the Research and Production Association of special materials that is the developer of the containers.
The experiments showed that Fontan containers can ensure safety of aircraft, he said.
If used, they reduce the area of explosion several times, absorbing the thermal effect of an explosion and protecting from most fragments, he added.
According to him, the containers are also capable to absorb the shock wave of explosive devices with power up to several dozen kilograms of TNT.
The product was adopted for use in the Russian Interior Ministry. It is said to be easy to handle by even non-specialists, who may detect bombs or look-alikes. They should simply cover the object found and call professionals.
"We believe that such equipment should be in disposal of all organizers of public events, shop owners and at enterprises, because it can save lives of people, and one should not spare money for this," he said.
