Russia will try to prevent North Korean nuclear tests (Part 2)

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian military command will do its best to prevent North Korean nuclear tests.

"We must do the utmost to prevent such tests in North Korea," Russian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Yury Baluyevsky said on Monday.

"We must do everything to resume the six-nation negotiations (between North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, Russia and the United States - Interfax). It is most important to prevent the tests and use of nuclear weapons in the northern part on the Korean Peninsula," Baluyevsky said.

"We simply must prevent tests and the appearance of nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula," he said.

As for the reports on Pyongyang plans to hold nuclear tests this June, Baluyevsky said, "we will verify this information together with my Japanese colleague."
