GROZNY. May 25 (Interfax-AVN) - No incidents have been reported in Chechnya over the past 24 hours and there are no reasons to expect an escalation of tensions in the republic, Chechen military commandant Lieutenant General Grigory Fomenko told Interfax on Wednesday.
"No shooting, explosions or armed clashes have been reported in Chechnya over the past 24 hours," Fomenko said.
Weapons, ammunition and explosives have been confiscated in a series of search operations in the republic over the past few days. Thirty topographic maps of Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, and North Ossetia have also been seized, he said. "Steps are being taken to establish the purpose of acquiring these topographic maps and their source," the military commandant said.
Four arms caches have been seized and ten mini-plants that refined stolen oil have been destroyed, he said.
Military commandant's office teams also confiscated two Kalashnikov assault rifles, 17 grenades, five kilograms of TNT, more than 1,800 cartridges, 32 magazines for Kalashnikov assault rifles, and three radio receivers, Fomenko said.
Five improvised explosive devices and four mines were found, he said.
Five guerillas wanted for terrorism and other grave crimes have been detained over the past 24 hours, the military commandant said.
