MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Control over military units in the Moscow region has not been interrupted since the beginning of power outages, the Russian Defense Ministry's PR department said in a statement circulated on Thursday.
"Control is exercised in the regular mode at the moment," the statement reads.
Constant interaction was established with the administrations of Moscow, the Moscow region, Tula, Ryazan and Kaluga. Twenty-two diesel power plants were removed from storage facilities and handed over to local governing bodies, it says.
In particular, two power plants were handed over to the authorities of Nakhabino for ensuring autonomous power supply to disconnected areas in the town, another two to the Information Technologies and Communications Ministry, and five to the administration of Moscow's Southern district.
In Tula, the 106th airborne division transferred an autonomous power source to the Central Maternity Home and two more to the blood transfusion station.
In addition, servicemen of the Tula garrison were involved in helping medical establishments and in efforts to cope with consequences of the power outages at several industrial facilities of the city.
"In particular, up to 200 servicemen of the 106th airborne division and automobiles were involved in cordoning off the disaster site at the organic synthesis plant in Novomoskovsk," the statement reads.
