Russian heli holding company to display new developments at Paris Air Show

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Helicopter Holding Company will display its new developments at Paris Air Show 2005 to be held in Le Bourget on June 13-19.

"We will display both new developments and modernization projects, pertaining to helicopters exported earlier," the press-service of the Oboronprom Corporation, which owns the helicopter company, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

According to the press-service, participants in the show will be able to see the Mil Mi-28 new-generation highly maneuverable helicopter. The Russian Defense Ministry has selected the Mi-28 as the main attack helicopter of the Russian Armed Forces. A total of 50 helicopters of this type are expected to be fielded with the Russian Armed Forces by 2010.

In addition to that, helicopter manufacturers will display the Mi-34 helicopter, which is second to none as far as its flight characteristics are concerned. At the moment the Mi-34 serves as a basis for a whole family of light helicopters, including UAVs.

Participant in the show will be able to find out about the development of the Mi-54 future light multi-role helicopter, and the Mi-38 medium multi-role helicopter, being developed by the Euromil joint venture.

The show will also see a great number of offers for modernizing Mi-35 (export version of the Mi-24) and Mi-8/17 helicopters. Mi-24/Mi-35-family helicopters constitute the backbone of the attack army aviation in Russia and a great many other states. At the moment the Mi-8/17 is the world's most widespread helicopter. The modernization program envisions wide international cooperation.

Participants in the show will be able to familiarize themselves with the unique capabilities of the Mi-26 helicopter (the civil version of the Mi-26T), which has the greatest lifting capacity in the world. At the present time the Mil Company jointly with Rostvertol works on modernizing the Mi-26 in order to further improve its flight characteristics and efficiency, as well as expand conditions of its employment.

The Oboronprom press-service pointed out that the Helicopter Holding Company delegation included Oboronporm Director General Denis Manturov, Mil Director General Andrei Shibitov, Ulan-Ude Aircraft Plant Director General Leonid Belykh, Kazan Helicopter Plant Director General Alexander Lavrentiev, and Rostvertol Director General Boris Slyusar.

Oboronprom is the flagship managing company of the helicopter holding company being established, which is to include the Mil Plant, the Ulan-Ude Plant, the Kazan Plant, and a number of other enterprises.
