Russia, NATO vow closer cooperation in fighting terrorism

BRUSSELS. June 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and NATO on Thursday pledged to cooperate more closely in the fight against terrorism and in post-terrorism rehabilitation.

A statement released by a defense minister-level meeting of the NATO-Russia Council said Russia and the North Atlantic alliance would seek complete implementation of a council anti-terrorism plan of action approved in December 2004.

The statement said the meeting had discussed Russian preparations for support for NATO's Active Endeavor anti-terror operation in the Mediterranean Sea.

The statement said the council was due to hold a conference late this month to analyze the latest terrorist attacks.

There will also be a seminar in Germany next month on nuclear doctrines and strategies.

One more planned event is an exercise in Britain in September to train reaction to incidents during the storage and transportation of nuclear ammunition in which NATO-Russia Council observers will take part, according to the statement.
