Russian lawmakers ready to share experience with Uzbek colleagues

MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The new two-chamber parliament of Uzbekistan may rely on Russian lawmakers' assistance and support, Andrei Kokoshin, chairman of the State Duma committee for CIS affairs and ties with compatriots, said on Friday.

"Russian parliamentarians are ready to share with Uzbek colleagues their experience in lawmaking activity and development of a sovereign democracy, taking all peculiarities of Uzbekistan into account," Kokoshin told Interfax-Military News Agency.

An accord on developing interaction in this field was reached at the meeting with Erkin Khalilov, chairman of the Uzbek parliament's legislative chamber, during the recent trip of a State Duma delegation to Uzbekistan, he said.

The new two-chamber parliament of Uzbekistan is the first lawmaking body of this kind in the country's history. "Establishment of such a parliament is an important step in development of Uzbekistan's political system," Kokoshin stressed.
