Three detained in Dagestan – press center

KHANKALA. June 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Three guerillas were detained in Dagestan reads the press release of the press center of the regional headquarters on antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus received by Interfax-Military News Agency Tuesday.

"The troops were verifying the information retrieved from local population and apprehended two alleged guerillas, local residents born in 1981 and 1985," reads the press release.

According to the data obtained, the detainees were members of the Akhmed Avdorkhanov gang that conducts terrorist activity in the Kurchaloi, Nozhai-Yurt and Gudermes districts of Chechnya.

One of the detainees was carrying a 7.62-mm Kalashnikov assault rifle with 30 rounds loaded in the magazine.

Moreover, another 1972-born suspect was detained in the village of Novolakskoye, who is also said to be the member of the gang.

"The latter confessed to being involved in a number of criminal offences under investigation in Dagestan and Chechnya," reads the press release.

The press center also informs that several caches with weapons were found in Chechnya and Dagestan.

For instance, while verifying the information of local population, law enforcement disclosed a cache with a 400-g TNT cartridge and a rocket in the Vedeno village in Chechnya.

Another cache was found in the vicinity of Pokrovskoye, a village in the Khasavyurt region of Dagestan, holding over 700 7.62 mm rounds, an F-1 grenade, an RPG-7 rocket, half a kilo of explosives, an UZRGM-2 detonator and over 50 kg of mixture to load a bomb, including ammonium nitrate.

"It was proved that the cache was made by local resident Ismail Yangizbiyev, born in 1974, who was an active member of a terrorist network and was killed in a clash in March 2005," reads the press release.
