MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax-AVN) - New deputy commander of the Russian Airborne Forces has been appoointed.
Colonel Alexander Cherednik, acting head of the Airborne Forces press-service, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday that Major General Nikolai Ignatov, former commander of the 7th Airborne Division, the Hero of Russia, had been appointed new deputy commander of the Airborne Forces.
"Colonel Viktor Astapov, former chief of staff of the 106th Airborne Division, headquartered in Pskov, has been appointed new commander of the 7th Airborne Divisioni," Cherednik said.
He also pointed out that Major General Alexander Kolpachenko, ex-chief of the 242nd Airborne Forces Training Center in Omsk, had been appointed new commander of the 76th Airborne Division.
"General Kolpachenko has succeeded Major General Stanislav Semenyuta, ex-commander of the 76th Division, who has retired from the Armed Forces," Cherednik said.
