MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia considers it inexpedient to set up a unified training and retraining center for flight personnel of the Collective Security Treaty Organization's member nations, a source in the CSTO Unified HQ told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
"Russia has enough air force training centers that can be used for this purpose, that is why the Russian party considers it inexpedient to set up another center," the source said.
He recalled that the proposal to set up the center and to procure aircraft for it was made at the CSTO defense ministers' meeting in November last year. The proposal was supported by the Defense Ministries of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
"The Russian stance is most likely to prevail, and pilots of CSTO member states will be trained on a single program, but in different centers depending on their profession, as there are special centers for fighter pilots, bomber pilots, and helicopterists," the source said.
The draft resolution on setting up the center will be considered at the autumn session of the CSTO Defense Ministers Council, he noted.
