Court brings sentence in warplane crash case in Lviv

LVIV. June 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The military appellate court of central Ukraine on Thursday sentenced persons responsible for the crash of the Su-27 warplane at Sknyliv airdrome in Lviv to prison sentences ranging from six to 14 years.

Volodymyr Toponar who piloted the plane during show flights on July 27, 2002 was sentenced to 14 years, Yury Yegorov, the second pilot to eight years, Anatoly Tretyakov, commander of the 14th air corps and Yury Yatsuk, deputy flight commander, to six years.

Anatoly Lukinykh, chief of the flight safety service of the air corps, received a four year suspended sentence while Oleh Dyubetsky responsible for the crew training was acquitted.

The crash of the Su-27 killed 77 people who were watching the demonstration flights.
