Russian missile forces improving combat training

MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) have held a training and methodical session on improvement on combat training arrangement for generals and officers, the SMF press service said on Monday.

"Lieutenant General Viktor Alexeyev, SMF deputy commander, was in charge of the session that involved over 50 generals and officers among deputy commanders of missile armies and missile divisions for combat training," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The session took place at facilities of the Vladimir missile army and missile units stationed in Kozelsk, the Kaluga region, and Teikovo, the Ivanovo region.

"The event was held for the first time after a five-year break. Its goal is to improve the system of arranging combat training for military units," the official said.

According to the press service, all missile regiments and divisions of the SMF that were checked in the first half of the current academic year were rated positively. They were found capable of accomplishing assigned combat missions before set deadliness. The performance of 60 percent of missile divisions and 81 percent of missile regiments was evaluated as good. As compared to 2004, 19 percent of missile regiments improved their performance.

The SMF saw five command post exercises supervised by army commanders and involving 11 missile regiments, as well as 22 tactical exercises supervised by missile division commanders in the first half of the academic year.
