MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Yury Baluyevsky on Friday instructed the commanding officers of arms of service and military branches who will be involved in the Vostok 2005 exercise, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The Vostok 2005 strategic command post exercise will take place in the Russian Far East from July 18 to 25, the spokesman said.
Colonel General Alexander Belousov, first deputy defense minister, earlier told Interfax-AVN, "The Vostok 2002 bilateral strategic CPX will be conducted by Army General Yury Baluyevsky, Armed Forces chief of staff, in the Far Eastern Military District and the Pacific Fleet."
According to him, the major objective of the CPX is to improve practical command and control skills of senior officers of military districts and fleets.
"In the course of the exercise major attention will be focused on improving liaison among headquarters of various military districts and fleets, as well as readiness of strategic and operational command and control bodies, troops, and fleets for discharging tasks specified," Belousov emphasized.
