YESSENTUKI. July 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Shepel has announced that the criminal case of a militant suspected of involvement in the execution of Russian servicemen has been sent to the Supreme Court of Dagestan.
"By handling top priority cases, the Prosecutor General's Office is demonstrating in practice that it is capable of joint investigative work with the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service. It is a matter of honor to solve a crime. I want to remind you that today we sent the case of Islan Mukayev, who took part in the execution of six servicemen in September 1999, to the Supreme Court of Dagestan," Shepel told reporters on Friday.
Shepel said that the brutal execution of the servicemen in the outskirts of Tukhchar, Dagestan, on September 5, 1999, was videotaped. Mukayev is charged with membership in a criminal group, gangsterism, attempts on the lives of law enforcement officers, mutiny and other crimes.
Shepel said that, in 2002, the Supreme Court of Dagestan sentenced Tamerlan Khasayev to life imprisonment for taking part in the same execution.
