TBILISI. July 26 (Interfax-AVN) - President Mikheil Saakashvili has applauded Georgian special services' investigation of a terrorist attack in Tbilisi on May 10, when a live grenade was thrown at a podium where Saakashvili and his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush were speaking.
"Special services with a much longer history than Georgia's special services have difficulty investigating such terrorist attacks," Saakashvili said at a meeting with senior law enforcement officials on Monday.
"This man (Vladimir Arutyunian, who was detained on suspicion of throwing a grenade - Interfax) tried to kill not me and the president of America, or the children who would have died on the square. He tried to kill the future of Georgia," the president said.
"Each citizen must realize what challenges face Georgia today and what steps should be taken to counter these challenges," he said.
Saakashvili said he hopes that Georgia's partners, including Russia, will work together to give "all people a chance to live in a peaceful, safe and law-based territory."
