MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Issues pertaining to enforcing nuclear security require increased attention of the international community, especially in light of the terrorist threat, Andrei Kokoshin, a State Duma legislator and an ex-Secretary of the Russian Security Council, told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Given the sharp increase in oil prices, we will soon witness another development cycle of nuclear power engineering, and an increase in its share in the energy balance of many states. At the same time security issues, especially with regards to terrorists laying their hands on fissile materials, become even more urgent," Kokoshin said.
According to him, international power engineering security, including nuclear security, becomes one of the most important issues for G-8 to be chaired by Russia.
"Russia has vast experience in the field of nuclear power engineering and its security. In this light Russia may offer G-8 members and then the international community as a whole a range of standards, ensuring nuclear security," Kokoshin said.
