U.S. allocates $2.1 million for arms destruction in Donetsk

DONETSK. Aug 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The U.S. Congress has allocated $2.1 million to the Donetsk State Chemical Works for the destruction of obsolete weapons.

Congress has already allocated the aid, U.S. Senator Richard Lugar said in Donetsk on Tuesday.

The funds are being disbursed in the framework of a twelve-year project of the NATO trust fund and the Partnership for Peace program, he said.

During the first three-year stage of the program, 1.5 thousand tonnes of light weapons, 133 rounds of ammunition and 1000 air defense launchers will be destroyed, he said. The Donetsk works will receive $2.1 million from the United States and $1.1 million from NATO, he said.
