Servicemen got under fire in Vedeno district of Chechnya

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Unidentified militants launched a sudden attack on a Russian Defense Ministry detachment that was conducting engineering reconnaissance in vicinity of the Elistanzhi village of the Vedeno district of Chechnya, a Chechen law enforcement official told Interfax-Military News Agency over the telephone on Thursday.

"The servicemen were conducting reconnaissance on the road, when an unidentified explosive device blasted one and a half km away from Elistanzhi, after which a group of militants attacked the Ural truck with the servicemen," he said.

According to him, no casualties are reported, as the servicemen fired back. The vehicle sustained slight damage.

The official also said that another attack on the Russian servicemen was registered nearby Elistanzhi on Tuesday.

"An unknown attacker launched a grenade at the outpost of the commandant's company at night. Nobody was injured and no backfire was open," he said.

According to him, several caches with weapons were found in Chechnya over the past 24 hours.

"A cache with an artillery projectile, three rockets for a rocket launcher, a hand grenade and 150 of plastic explosives was found in the forest three kilometers away from Nozhai Yurt," he said.
