Strategic Missile Forces to buy more missiles

VLASIKHA, Moscow Region. Nov. 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Strategic Missile Forces are to increase missile purchases from the defense industry, Forces Commander Nikolai Solovtsov said on Monday.

"Our armament program stipulates larger purchases of missiles and missile launchers from the defense industry. Purchases will increase to 10, 12 or 15 units," he said.

Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov told Armed Forces commanders earlier that the Strategic Missile Forces would receive six intercontinental ballistic missiles next year.

The Strategic Missile Forces believe the industry capable of meeting their demand for missiles, Solovtsov said.

"Our biggest problem funding construction projects," he said.

This is a matter of building missile silos, the infrastructure for rocket units, roads, buildings and protective facilities. "It costs a lot to put silos and mobile missile systems on standby. So far we have been encountering difficulties," he said.
