MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Infrastructure development at the Plesetsk cosmodrome is among the main missions of the Space Forces for 2006, Space Forces Commander Vladimir Popovkin told a session of the forces' council.
Infrastructure should be developed in the interests of gradual transition to launching military- and dual-purpose space rockets from the Russian territory, Popovkin was quoted as saying by Alexei Kuznetsov, chief of the Space Forces press service.
In particular, this implies conducting flight tests of the Soyuz-2 medium-class carrier rocket with the Frigat booster and the Rocket light carrier rocket at Plesetsk, the commander said.
Another priority mission is "making sure that the schedule of military satellite launches and flight tests of promising system is abided by scrupulously, and preventing disruption or rescheduling of rocket launch dates," he noted.
Popovkin recalled that a segment of the Krona radio-optic identification station for space objects was put on test duty in May this year.
In addition, research, development and test projects aimed at creation of future space systems and armaments are going on. Work is underway to improve and develop infrastructure of cosmodromes and other facilities, building the launcher and technical systems for Angara carrier rockets, and complete the upgrade of Soyuz-2 carrier rockets. Several military satellites are taking tests, the commander said.
The council session discussed combat training and service of troops, capital construction of social facilities, the state of law, order and military discipline, and work with officers, Kuznetsov noted.
