MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The parliamentary elections climaxed the reconstruction of Chechnya's constitutional system, President Vladimir Putin said at a Monday meeting with government members.
"The elections formally conclude the reconstruction of the republican constitutional system," he said. "Chechnya has had a major political event - it has elected the legislative power body, the parliament."
"Chechens and other residents of Chechnya have once again proven their strong will, political maturity and self-organization. They showed that no one would ever intimidate them," Putin said.
The parliament election turnout "topped 60%, and law enforcement agencies functioned smoothly," he said.
Putin thanked "all police officers and servicemen, who provided for the security of the election campaign and the ballot."
"We realize that much is still to be done to remove destabilizing factors (in Chechnya - Interfax). That will take the efficient implementation of the social and economic rehabilitation plans of the government and the administration of Chechnya," he said.
