GROZNY. Nov 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Law enforcers are conducting a large-scale effort in the Chechen village of Avtury and the surrounding woods to hunt down the gunmen who murdered village administration chief Ibragim Umpashayev and his son Isa Tuesday evening.
"Unprecedented measures are being taken to track and capture or kill, if they offer resistance, the gunmen involved in the crime," Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov told Interfax on Wednesday.
He said that a group of up to 15 gunmen entered Umpashayev's yard and murdered him. Then they dragged his son into the street and shot him dead.
Alkhanov said that Umpashayev, who led the village administration for many years, was one of the most respected local leaders in Chechnya.
