TBILISI. March 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States supports Georgian settlement efforts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and hopes Russia will intensify its efforts as well, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza said after a Thursday meeting with Georgian Deputy State Minister for Separatist Conflicts Giorgi Volsky.
Georgia is taking steps toward the settlement, he said. The authority of Georgia in Europe is improving day by day, and the United States hopes that European assistance will speed up the settlement process, he said.
The United States would like Russia to share Georgia's enthusiasm and take active steps in the settlement process, Bryza said.
"Georgia and the United States have the same position on the settlement. We want Russia to share this position," Volsky said.
