MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has supported the idea of abolishing penal battalions in the country's armed forces.
"It will allow the Defense Ministry to deal with inconsistencies plaguing the country's criminal liability system and get rid of the anachronism of penal battalions," Ivanov told a session of the armed forces' officers in Moscow on Wednesday.
"The time has come to establish disciplinary tribunals in military units," he said.
