KRASNODAR. April 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The fighter aviation regiment protecting Moscow's skies showed good results in a sudden check by the Defense Ministry's military inspection.
"Representatives of the military inspection suddenly arrived at the regiment at night and put it on alert," Army General Vladimir Mikhailov, Air Force commander-in-chief, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
The pilots flew to Voronezh on MiG-29 fighters where they rehearsed coverage of bomber aviation in the air and conducted a few mock dogfights. Then they relocated to the Privolzhsky airfield in the Astrakhan region, where they were put on combat duty.
After that, the crews fired at aerial targets and destroyed them successfully at the Ashuluk training ground in the Astrakhan region. "The check ended by the planes' landing at their home airfield in Adreapol in the Tver region," Mikhailov said.
He noted that the flights were carried out by 12 crews, five of them consisting of young pilots.
"The inspection paid special attention to checking the young crews consisting of senior lieutenants and captains aged 22-25 years. They showed good results. All theoretical and practical missions were accomplished with good and excellent ratings. I will reward the personnel engaged in the check," the commander-in-chief stressed.
