Russian commander denies fire in submarine

VLADIVOSTOK. April 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Viktor Fyodorov has denied reports that a fire broke out in a Pacific Fleet nuclear submarine.

"All ships and submarines are at their bases in a state of readiness. Some of them are under scheduled repair. No incidents were reported last night," Fyodorov told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"These reports are misinformation," the commander said.

Reports circulated earlier on Thursday claimed, citing a source in the Pacific Fleet, that a fire had broken out in a Pacific Fleet submarine in Kamchatka. They claimed the fire had flared up in a submarine under scheduled repair in the restricted town of Vilyuchinsk, but was immediately put out by personnel of the forces based in Russia's northeast. No additional forces were drawn.

The media said no one was hurt. No threat of an explosion was reported.
