Russia to deliver Tor-M1 missiles to Iran – Baluyevsky

MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Army General Yury Baluyevsky said that Moscow will execute a contract to deliver Tor-M1 anti-missile systems to Iran despite the fact that the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear issue has been aggravated.

"I do not doubt that the contract will be fulfilled, taking into consideration al of Russia's international obligations in the non-proliferation area. Russia will execute the contract within the framework of military and technical cooperation," Baluyevsky told journalists in Moscow.

Equipment delivered to Iran is purely a means of air defense, he said.

"I am sure that this equipment is non-strategic," Baluyevsky said.

At the same time, there will be no military deliveries to Teheran in the near future, he said. "I don't think that [the equipment] will be delivered to Iran either tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow," Baluyevsky said.
