Enrichment joint venture can be set up fast if Iran is ready – diplomat

MOSCOW. April 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's proposal on the formation of a joint venture with Iran for the enrichment of uranium can be implemented quickly, if Tehran accepts it, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak has said.

"If we are speaking of our proposal to our Iranian friends, we know how and where to build it, but everything depends on our Iranian partners, on whether they are ready," he told a Friday news conference in Moscow.

Speaking of the Russian proposal on the establishment of multinational centers for uranium enrichment he said that "It will take more time. I don't think this can be done in a short space of time."

Asked about parties to international centers, Kislyak said: "In a technical sense we are at the very start of the road." He said Russia hopes for the active involvement of the IAEA in the establishment of the centers.

"The IAEA will not only make reports, we count on its active involvement in the advancement of the concept," he said.
