KUALA LUMPUR. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Malaysia is to buy two Russian MiG-29 combat-training fighter jets, a source in the Russian delegation to the Defense Services Asia-2006 international weapons show told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
The DSO-2006 show opened in Kuala Lumpur on April 24.
"The deal has been agreed upon. The planes are likely to be bought under leasing arrangements, and the scheme of the deal is currently being negotiated," he said.
Malaysia has 16 MiG-29 fighter jets, including 14 combat and two training, the source added.
Initially, Malaysia had 18 MiG-29's, but two of them were lost. "The newly acquired fighters will replace the lost ones," the Russian source said.
