Large-scale antiterrorism exercise starts in South of Russia

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax-AVN) - A large-scale antiterrorism command post exercise (CPX) has started in Russia's Southern federal district, an official of the Interior Ministry Force's press service told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

"The objective of the exercise is to improve command and control over federal forces and territorial detachments in contingency operations. The CPX is organized to consolidate efforts of uniformed agencies in a bid to effectively counter bandits and terrorists," he said.

He added that the CPX will see participation of about 32,000 personnel, 117 command and control bodies, over 60 units of the Interior Ministry Force and the Defense Ministry, as well as Interior Ministry command and control bodies, and those of other law enforcement agencies.

According to Colonel General Nikolai Rogozhkin, Interior Ministry Force commander-in-chief, the joint CPX will help make and adequate assessment of federal forces' readiness for contingency operations, combating terrorism and emergencies, and reach unity of views and standpoints of law enforcement agencies' leaders in relation to combat training and readiness, the spokesman said.

Territorial command and control bodies will be inspected to evaluate how effective they are under conditions of terror attacks. Also, training law enforcement operations are planned.

During the classes the commanding personnel will improve their command and control skills in the course of preparation for and fulfillment of various missions in various conditions and situations with the help of new state of the art telecommunication technologies, and coordinate efforts on reserve regrouping in case the situation aggravates.

The CPX provides for tactical maneuvers as well, including the ones with live firing at the Interior Ministry Force and Defense Ministry training centers in the North Caucasus.
