Russia condemns Egypt blasts – Lavrov

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia strongly condemns the bombings that hit the Egyptian resort of Dahab on Monday, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with Egyptian Parliamentary Speaker Fathi Sorour in Moscow on Tuesday.

"First of all, I would like to extend my sincere condolences over the barbaric terrorist attacks in Egypt, which we condemn resolutely and uncompromisingly. The president of the Russian Federation has sent a letter of condolences to President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak. The Foreign Ministry also made a statement on the matter," Lavrov said.

Russia is ready to "provide all the necessary assistance to deal with the consequences of these actions. Our diplomats and consular representatives are vigorously working on such issues. Citizens of many countries, including Russia, were injured" in the explosions, the minister said.

"All this highlights the need for broader cooperation in the fight against terrorism. We appreciate our ties with Egypt in this area and are ready to develop them further," he said.

Russia views Egypt as its strategic partner, Lavrov said.

Sorour called for broader international efforts to combat terrorism. "We will make the most of our achievements in this area and anti-terrorist law," he said.
