Russia, Spain to hold maneuvers in Mediterranean Sea

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The navies of Russia and Spain are going to hold joint maneuvers in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Kaliningrad amphibious ship of the Russian Baltic Fleet will take part in the Russian-Spanish joint exercise envisaging joint maneuvering and communication training on departing from the Spanish seaport of Cartahena, chief of the Russian Navy's press service Captain 1st Rank Igor Dygalo told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.

"The Spanish Navy will be represented by the frigate Infanta Elena," he said.

Common practice shows that such maneuvers raise the understanding between Russian and foreign sailors to a qualitatively new level, he added.

The Kaliningrad has been on a month-long voyage in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and has already visited some seaports of Tunisia, Algeria and Spain.
