MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The volume of new arms procurements for the Russian Armed Forces in 2005 amounted to 77 billion rubles ($2.84 billion), or 96.4 percent of what was planned in the state defense order framework, Vladislav Putilin, first deputy chairman of the government's defense industry commission, said on Saturday.
In particular, 20 planes, 17 tanks and 91 armored personnel carriers were procured for the Armed Forces, Putilin told a news conference.
"This is the beginning of the Armed Forces rearmament," he stressed.
According to him, the defense order for 2005 totaled 447.43 billion rubles ($16.52 billion).
