Organizers of blast killing Akhmad Kadyrov will be punished – Chechen president

MOSCOW. May 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen President Alu Alkhanov has said that the organizers of the terrorist act on May 9, 2004 in Grozny in which Chechen leader Akhmad Kadyrov was killed will be caught and punished.

"I must say that very serious thorough work is under way to investigate the terrorist act. I am absolutely sure about the ultimate result," he said in an interview with Interfax.

He said law enforcers eliminated several persons involved in organizing the terrorist attack during special operations.

"We know that Shamil Basayev was the main contractor of the crime. Work continues to catch Basayev and those who stood behind him and made the decisions," Alkhanov said.

He did not rule out the possibility that certain foreign forces could have been involved in Kadyrov's assassination.

"It is my opinion that someone else in addition to Basayev stands behind the terrorist attack," he said.

Six persons died in an explosion at Dinamo stadium in Grozny during the V-E Day parade on May 9, 2004. One more person died in hospital later. About 50 people were wounded.

The killed were Akhmad Kadyrov, two of his bodyguards, chairman of the Chechen State Council Khusein Isayev, reporter Adlan Khasanov and a child.
